Here are some ways to help reduce your auto premium:
Keep your current car for a few extra years
The more your car is worth, the more it can cost to insure. So there’s a good chance your premium will rise if you replace a $20,000 trade-in with the latest $40,000 model. Driving an older car that’s less valuable can help keep your overall premium lower.
Drive safely
A clean driving record — no traffic violations or accidents — indicates that you’re a better risk, and can help you keep your insurance rate as low as possible.
Do research before buying a car
Some cars are less expensive to insure than others. Spend time evaluating different makes and models — considering overall safety and theft rates. If you’re considering several models and can’t decide, your Farmers agent can provide coverage rates so you can compare and make an informed decision.
Purchase multiple policies
You may qualify for discounts when you purchase multiple policies with Farmers—for instance, by combining your auto policy and a home policy.
Find additional discounts
Depending on the state you live in, you may be eligible for a number of discounts.
Consider your deductibles
A higher deductible can lower your monthly premium. Keep in mind, however, it would also mean paying more out-of-pocket in the case of a loss. Talk to your Farmers agent so you can choose the right balance for you.
How to Get Homeowners Insurance Discounts
Farmers® builds value into every policy — but you may be eligible for even more savings if you take actions like these.
Enhance your home’s safety and security
Making your home as safe as possible can help reduce the risk of fire and theft. So you may earn discounts if you secure your doors and windows with dead bolts and strong locks. Other actions you can take include installing:
- A security system with an outside signal and connection to local police
- A fire alarm that automatically alerts the local fire department
Be sure to let your agent know if you make changes or add these items to your home so you can see if you are eligible for any available discounts.
Don’t smoke
Because smoking raises the risk of fire damage, nonsmokers may qualify for lower homeowners insurance premiums by way of discounts. In most states, Farmers offers a discount if all members of a household haven’t smoked in the past two years.
Purchase multiple policy lines from Farmers
You’ll get more than convenience when you buy multiple policy lines from Farmers — you might also receive multiline discounts on each policy. Remember to ask your agent about pricing for auto and personal umbrella coverage when you request a homeowners insurance quote.
See if you’re eligible for additional savings
Are you a teacher, police officer, firefighter, member of the military, doctor, nurse, dentist, engineer or other professional? You may be eligible for a discount because of your career choice. And you may qualify for other discounts, regardless of your profession.
Your Farmers agent will be happy to help answer questions as you decide which coverage you want.
